WEEK 14 IN REVIEW

Monday 12/23

Yesterday I left Santiago at 7:00pm to find a bus to Osorno, and finally got on one ($80 for the 11 hour bus ride!!!!) from 9:30pm - 8:15am.  I slept okay but my ankles were SO SWOLLEN this morning!  My shoes felt tight and my legs looked disgusting.  Second time they've swollen up on this trip... what is this?!

Emily had a member waiting for me right where I got dropped off, it was perfect.  We went to the lake for her P-day zone activity, bought groceries, did Internet, and went out at 6:00 to teach.  We did some contacts/lessons and I loved it, yet... for the first time, I felt grateful that I didn't have to do this full-time.  I can talk to people on airplanes and in their houses as friends, I don't have to knock doors or get rejected, I just get to be friends.

I'm allergic to something here -- my eyes are red and swollen, pouring tears.  My asthma is BAD, and my nose is stuffed/runny at the same time. :(

Tuesday 12/24

Happy Christmas, Ron! (Harry Potter.)

Last night I had the worst asthma attack I've ever had, I think.  I could not sleep after that.  But I went to Emily/Hermana Alvarez's district meeting, came home to take an hour nap because I was exhausted, and went out from 4-6pm with them. Then I went to buy allergy meds cuz I'm still dying.

We met up at the branch president's house for dinner, and the hermanas were allowed out til 11:00pm, and then we opened Em's presents at their house.  It was a fun night!

As I was walking home, I heard a church playing Christmas songs on their bells, and I loved it!

Wednesday 12/25

Merry Christmas America!  Chile celebrates Christmas at midnight on 12/24, so today wasn't really anything.

After lunch, I borrowed a bike and went into town to check the bus schedule (going to Temuco at 8pm tomorrow) and saw the cemetery and the centro (super small).  We skyped the fam at 6:00! :)

Thursday 12/26

I went out with the hermanas for a couple hours after biking into town to check the bus schedule and packing my stuff.

I said good-bye at 6:00 and went with a family in their ward to Osorno to see the city, and then got on a bus at 8:10 ... I should arrive at 11:30pm in Temuco.

When I got on the bus, a little 3-year-old boy was watching me eat a banana.  He said, ''hola!'' and waved.  I waved back, and he moved his pointer finger to say, ''come here!''  and I did it back to him.  Then he pointed at my banana and smiled.  I broke off half and handed it to him, and he looked so happy... he took a bite, paused, gave a big sigh, and said (with his mouth full of banana) '' 'ta rica!''' (''It's good!'') and rolled his eyes upward with delight.  His two parents and I all burst out laughing, it was the FUNNIEST thing!  He wasn't lacking food (he had candy in his hand) but he really wanted that delicious banana.  Sooo funny!  We've been talking and playing together for half an hour, he's SO CUTE and so social.  His name is Matias and he's going to get his Christmas presents.  We're best friends.  He gave me a candy.

(Later) Made it to Temuco!  Tomorrow off to Fundo el Carmen to hunt down Lucho!!! :)

Friday 12/27

I took a bus to Fundo el Carmen and found Jocelyn!  I asked her parents for directions in the street before I realized who they were.  But Lucho moved. :(

I'm sunburnt, and I'm SUPER allergic to something here, too.  My eyes are swollen and bloodshot and itchy.  My asthma... ugh.

Saturday 12/28

Eduardo (Irene's husband) said he saw Lucho driving a brown truck in Lautaro.  WHAT!!!  Eduardo said he waved to Lucho and signaled him to pull over, but Lucho pointed to his watch and signaled that he had to keep going.

Irene and I went to lunch at the mall (with Maxi).  I got 1/2 a veggie Subway sandwich for $3.50 and a small pineapple/pepper pizza for $3.50 (I've been hungry haha).  I took a quick nap (okay, 2 hours) and we watched the 1st Hunger Games movie at home before going to see the 2nd one at the theatre.  I liked it even more the 2nd time around after reading the 3rd book and watching the 1st movie again.  I always do things backwards.

Sunday 12/29

I went to Barrio Lican Ray in Fundo el Carmen.  They asked me to give the closing prayer in combined RS/Priesthood. :)  It was good to go back to my first ward... I've changed so much since 2007.  I'm so grateful for the experiences I've had since then.
